A Toy Drive To Benifit Local Homeless and Families in Need...

Dear SDA Families,

We have joined KATY 101.3 in their "Toy/Gift Drive" this Season

KATY 101.3 is collecting toys to benefit the "Western Eagle Foundation."
All Toys & Gifts items that we collect here at the studio will benefit needy and homeless families in and around Riverside County by way of the "Western Eagle Foundation." Read more about this organization at:

The "Western Eagle Foundation" will  host a "Christmas Party" for such families and will then be handing out these gifts. What an awesome outreach to be a part of.

Our hope is that everyone can bring at least one (1) gift item and/or donate $1 - $5 or whatever you can afford. Bring your spare change!...

I am sure one of our little dancers will be happy to take part in shopping with the proceeds we collect here at the studio and purchase Toys, Trinkets & Gift items in our effort to contribute to this endeavor.

There will be an open container covered in "gift wrapping" paper, so you can't miss it, near the front entrance of the studio.  Just drop off your gift item in this container.  Also, there will be a decorative canister at the same location for monetary donations. : )

Thank you all for your participation.

The Nutcracker 2011 Peek of Photos

The Nutcracker has come and gone! All those long hours of practice paid off. The shows were lovely and lavish! I could not possibly capture all the sparkling moments of The Nutcracker 2011--since I am not a photographer. You'll have to find someone else who caught the proposal on camera!  But I did manage to snap a few shots for this spot to whet your appetites. Mrs. Jacobsen painstakingly photographed the rehearsal (Thanks Suzette!) and of course we will have the DVD to look forward to. Enjoy a quick peek at this weekend's fun! Click on any photo to see it enlarged. Laughter and tears, marvelous memories, and a whole lot of amazing dancing:
It all begins with a prayer!
Svetlana encircled by her studio family for prayer.
Best foot forward!

Pre-shows social time keeps the butterflies away.
We even had a guitar and some singers relieving stress before curtain.
Natalie and Mychal are so calm before the show begins.
Those brilliant smiles showcase their confidence.
They BOTH danced beautifully!

Some dancers stretch to warm up. Some talk and giggle. A good time is had by all!
Opening scene--this party is where it is at!

Clara's best friends dance--Mistilyn and Reilly alongside Clara/Maddie (not pictured). Sarah and Jennifer enjoying conversation in the background.

Beautiful Party Teens!

More pretty Party girls getting in the festive mood!

The fun continues!
Sarah and Natalie ham it up after the show.

Normal Class Schedule Resumes Today

Dear SDA families,

Just a reminder, all classes will resume TODAY Wednesday, November 30th. I hope you all got some rest.

Also please check our studio's "lost and found" items as all clothes that are not picked up by this Saturday, December 3rd will be given away to Salvation Army.
Thank you for your understanding.
Be blessed!

READ THIS!

Some important information to help you navigate through performance week:

Starting Today--Saturday November 19--Dine & Dance Potluck for our dancers! Please remember to bring some food to share with our hungry crowd of performers! Bring a serving spoon and even some disposable dishes/utensils if possible. Last night's soup was tricky without bowls! :) Homemade is not a requirement--drumsticks or cheese and crackers satisfy too! This such a special treat to the hard-working and hungry dancers.

Friday's Dress Rehearsal HAS BEEN MOVED to Wednesday, November 23. Here are the details from Svetlana's email:

"First of all thank you so much to all of you who do take time to pray for our studio and our children. We already have a praise report! The theater called me this morning and offered a theater use for our dress rehearsal on Wednesday Nov.23rd. It is wonderful news as it eliminates a lot of pressure of having a dress rehearsal and a show on the same day. So, that means that dress rehearsal on Friday Nov.25th is canceled and will take place on Wed. Nov. 23rd at the Theater. (Please disregard a previous Wed. schedule I sent before.) Friday Nov. 25th will only have a show @ 7pm, call time 1 and1/2 h before the show."

CHANGES:

Wednesday, November 24
Call time for all the dancers: 2:30pm
Dress rehearsal: 4pm-9pm
Unloading props: 10:30-11am
Tech. rehearsal:
1 pm-3pm Program lighting/sound (see Paula's email with particulars about this!)

Friday, November 25
7pm show ONLY, call time 5:30pm NO DRESS REHEARSAL!

More tidbits and gentle reminders:

You all know that the cast is very large for this show, the biggest ever for Nutcracker. That means the staff  and volunteers are scrambling to get additional costumes for all our dancers. Many are being made from scratch to match existing costumes. Please offer grace and understanding if you are still waiting for a fitting or costume check. They are being made and everyone will look sparkling for our first show. Thanks for your patience.

Feel free to volunteer some time this week sewing tulle on tutus, making garland or hot gluing snowflakes on skirts. A whole craft central exists in Studio D. Come check it out today while you wait for your kid's rehearsal to end. Bring a chair, a sweater (it is chilly back there!) and helper hands. There is MUCH work to be accomplished~many hands make light work.

We understand that just getting our dancers to the studio for all the rehearsals is a monumental task--THANK YOU for your faithfulness and dedication! Even if you can't help, please be sure to smile. It helps keep the environment in the studio sweet and peaceful for our children.

We are in this together! It is going to be a spectacular show and a great memory for our kids if we persist in peaceful and gracious attitudes for our dancers to imitate.

Spotlight on Staff: Angela

Angela-Ballet I-II Instructor

Meet SDA's newest instructor. Angela has been teaching our Ballet I-II students for the past 6 months. We are so glad to have her with us!

Angela, a dancer since she was three, recently discovered Classical Vaganova Ballet. She fell in love with the art. Now she and her 8 year old daughter, Taylor,  are both pursing serious training in classical Russian ballet here at the studio.

Angela began her dancing career as a competitive team dancer. She trained for 18years. Pointe work was always her favorite. Now Angela shares her love of ballet with her daughter and our other young dancers. A proud momma, a disciplined student and an accomplished teacher!

Angela also enjoys running and art, especially mural painting. Before she became a mother to her two children, Angela was in the Navy for seven years. Unbelievable--all those talents in one gal! She was an air traffic-controller at LAX! Angela--a woman of many skills. We are so thankful she is sharing them all with us here!

DINE & DANCE POTLUCK

UPDATE:
SDA/IVCBT families  and friends have already raised $124.58 from the Dream Dinners fundraiser! WOO HOO!!! Grateful "Thanks!" to those who participated!
Many thanks to Aileen Kohrman for her tireless efforts heading up our fundraising needs! IVCBT relies on the support of our fantastic family!

Here is another opportunity to participate!
Carla, our beloved office manager, shares this:

"I'd like to announce Dine & Dance! I love to look for ways to do things for our dancers, especially before a show. Each year a few of  moms get together and provide potluck food the Friday and Saturday before the show. Dancers, especially the older ones, can be here up until midnight practicing!

On Friday,  November 18 at 4pm and Saturday, November 19 at noon, we would like to provide a potluck for the dancers.  They work so hard and burn so many calories to make our shows a success!

We invite our parents to participate with crockpot foods, salads, french breads, desserts, drinks, plates, forks and spoons, napkins, cups and ice.

Some ideas for crockpot foods are: spaghetti w/sauce, chicken or beef stew, rice dishes, pasta dishes, macaroni & cheese, etc.

There are three ways to sign up:  Call Carla at 951-587-8402, email Carla at ivcbtfundraising@yahoo.com, or check out the sign-up sheet in Volunteer Central!

Please drop off dishes at the studio one hour before the appointed time--sooner if they need to be plugged in!

Thanks so much!"

Looking Lovely for The Nutcracker

As you are preparing for the upcoming performance of SDA's The Nutcracker, don't forget your make-up!

Click on the link below to find make-up tips and video tutorials (for those visual learners!) for The Nutcracker. The information is offered by Christine Dion of Mode Dion.  She's a professional makeup artist who specializes in makeup for the ballet stage.

These are suggestions only, not required. SDA and IVCBT do not require stage makeup for men and boys. The video tutorials are interesting. They will help you to understand the use and application of stage makeup. The finished results are fabulous!

The Immortal Dracula Ball

Creative, artistic, passionate people congregate at Svetlana's Dance Academy!  Dillon, a SDA student for 2 years, tops the list. Dillon is  a junior at Cal Poly, Pomona where he takes his studies seriously. He is a Hotel Hospitality Major with an emphasis on Event Planning. This boy can plan events!

To meet the requirement of 800 hours of work experience, Dillon put on the FIRST ANNUAL Immortal Dracula Ball at the studio last month. Svetlana was easy to convince of the merits of the Ball--she loves the classic Dracula Ballet.

Dillon employed his many talents and skills to transform the dance studio into a Gothic ballroom. 65 party-ers showed up for the ball. Dancing, a DJ and original performances combined to make the night a success. Four original dances entertained the guests.  A trio of Vampires brides, a demon-possessed solo and two duets highlighted the Halloween theme.

Dillon did a fabulous job decorating the studio...check out the photos below for proof. Checkers are his hallmark and they transformed the wall into a geometric spider's nest. The costume contest added a bit of friendly competition to the night.

Honors went to the following:

Best Costume: Sarah the Dragon
Second Place was shared by: Leanna the Lion & Alexa the Ring Master
Third Place was snagged by : Pierce the Fairy

Dillon's Trademark Checkers

Even Santa made an appearance!

Dillon hopes to continue planning Big Events. If the 1st Annual  Immortal Dracula Ball is any indication, Dillon has a prosperous future ahead. Look ahead to the 2nd Annual Ball next Halloween. Keep your eyes fixed on the Nutcracker stage where Dillon will dance the part of the Nutcracker Prince.

Thanks for all your hard work and diligence, Dillon.

Meet Rebekah & Rachael!

Rebekah & Rachael Mathieu
Both 4th Graders at Dehesa Charter School

Everyone has heard the axiom about twins: "Double the trouble!" But Rebekah and Rachael, twin ballerinas at SDA, bring to mind the old Double Mint Gum ad: "Double the Pleasure!" These darling girls can be found painting their nails, giggling, telling secrets, running down the hall, doing homework and especially swirling around in the studio. They spend a lot of time at the studio as their mom, Carla, takes such good care of  the administrative tasks here. The girls' pleasant personalities brighten the place up!

Rebekah is homeschooled and loves Math. She has been dancing for a year now and prefers contemporary ballet. She dreams of dancing the part of Clara one day. This year she travelled with her family to Mammoth and hiked to a waterfall. It was a highlight of 2011 for her.

Rachael, also homeschooled, enjoys Reading especially the Narnia series. She likes fantasy stories. Her favorite style of dance is contemporary as well. She aspires to dance professionally someday. A special memory includes a visit to Ohio to see her aunt.

Be sure to smile at our studio flowers, twins Rebekah and Rachael, next time you see them prancing past you at the studio. And look for their sweet smiles in the upcoming performance of The Nutcracker.
